9 October, 2015

OneWorld published an article on the annual international NpM conference of 25 September in Den Hague. The topic of this year’s conference, Green Inclusive Finance: Extending the Impact of Investing, is high on the agenda of H.M. Queen and UNSGSA (for Inclusive Finance for Development) Máxima, as she expressed during the UN General Assembly. There is a growing need for Green Inclusive Finance services and products that contribute to economic development as well as reduction of carbon emissions, climate smart adaptation and protection of biodiversity while strengthening local entrepreneurship and local communities.

Geert Jan Schulte and Davide Forcella from Enclude found that attention from funders and investors for green investments is growing rapidly. During the conference their report on the global status, trends and opportunities in the Green Inclusive Finance sector was presented. In addition, NpM offered, on behalf of its members, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, a Letter of Intent stating that they incorporate green in their policies and in their activities.

The offer of green products and services is growing: in 2008 only 4 % of the microfinance institutions offered green loans, in 2014 this was 31%.
