Senior advisor Inclusive Finance

The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam is a centre of expertise for sustainable economic development, gender, health care and intercultural communication. We carry out research and provide advisory services and training in order to build and share knowledge on a wide range of development issues. Our focus on both policy and practice is key to our approach to development. We bring experience and translate initiatives from the field to the policy debate and we help bring theory into practice. We navigate and stimulate interactions between global, national and local levels of interventions.

We are currently seeking applications for the position of Senior Advisor Inclusive Finance in our KIT SED & Gender unit, an international team of specialists. Our main fields of work include research, policy advice and support, institutional change and capacity strengthening. The team is expanding its portfolio into the field of inclusive finance for development finance institutions, financial markets, impact investment funds, foundations, NGOs and governments. We advise management, impact investors and other key staff of our clients to address pro-poor, social inclusion and gender concerns in all aspects of their financing and investment processes. Particularly for those that have an emerging interest to enhance their social impact on youth and women.<

Senior advisor Inclusive Finance (for 38 hours/week)

Main Responsibilities

  • Explore emerging client and partner needs on financial inclusion, impact investing and gender and help develop KIT’s knowledge- and advisory base in this area.
  • Contribute to programme development such as writing of proposals for research, capacity strengthening projects and advisory assignments.
  • Participate in inclusive and gender finance programs (action research, policy development) at international, regional and national levels.
  • Acquire and manage projects including financial management, timely narrative and financial reporting and maintaining client relations.
  • Support liaison with donors, clients and partners.
  • Contribute to team learning, knowledge development and positioning.
  • Provide a meaningful contribution to the KIT’s policy development and priority setting.

We ask

  • Academic qualifications in economic and/or social sciences, preferably with a financing for development related graduate degree.
  • At least three years of practical experience in development finance and private sector development, or having researched related subjects in emerging markets.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in gender lens impact investing, gender & development theory and practice and/or inclusive finance and enhancing social impact by finance for development initiatives.
  • Acquisition, planning and management experience.
  • Overseas living and work experience is an asset.
  • Collegial attitude and capacity to work within a diverse team and maintain good working relations with global partners.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written essential. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an additional advantage.
  • Ability to travel for short missions on a regular basis

We offer

 The salary, based on age, qualifications and experience, is between € 4.098,- and € 5.001,- gross per month for a 38-hour working week. In addition, there is an 8% holiday allowance, admission to the KIT pension fund (ABP) and opportunities for training and personal development.
