MIX helps impact investors who move 10 billion USD annually to monitor their portfolios and increase their investments in underserved sectors and geographies. MIX is expanding to address the information needs in sectors where financial services are enablers of broader development goals, including smallholder agricultural finance, green energy, and fintech. MIX’s partners and clients include the World Bank and IFC, UNCDF, Mastercard Foundation, and leading impact investors.

For the position of Director of Development MIX is seeking an experienced, innovative, outgoing individual with a proven track record of raising funds and building partnerships and brand recognition for an international non-profit social enterprise. The successful candidate should have documented success in researching, positioning, writing and winning grant and contract proposals for donors such as foundations, development agencies (e.g., USAID, IFAD), development banks (e.g., African Development Bank) and corporate partners. The successful candidate will implement and expand MIX’s fundraising strategy, resulting in the development of a portfolio of grants and contracts of at least $3M per year.  

This position reports to the CEO, with frequent interaction with MIX COO, Director of Marketing and Communications and MIX’s Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • - Contribute to securing at least US$1M in grants or contracts in year 1, growing to $3M per year by year 3
  • - Work with CEO, Board of Directors, and MIX team to develop, diversify and execute MIX’s fundraising strategy and annual tactical plan.
  • - Approach and cultivate major groups of donors and partners including but not limited to the following: Bilateral agencies and development banks, Foundations, Private sector corporate partnerships, Development agencies and Subcontractor roles
  • - Perform grant and award research, cultivation, positioning, proposal writing, and hold meetings for above groups of funders; manage grant reporting.
  • - Work with and prepare CEO, senior management team, and board members for donor meetings and other development events
  • - Prepare and submit development pipeline reports and partnership tracking reports
  • - Use Salesforce, and other donor databases and marketing tools 
  • - Coordinate with MIX’s marketing and communications team to produce blogs, newsletters, success stories, promotional videos, social media, and other partnership development collateral

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • - Minimum 5 years professional experience in a similar position with demonstrated success in fund and partnership development
  • - Professional experience in technical proposal writing for an international non-profit social enterprise or similar private sector business, with proven record of winning grants and contracts and exceeding fundraising or business development goals
  • - Outstanding, outgoing interpersonal skills, high energy level, and ability to speak persuasively in front of donors and partners
  • - Competency with social media, donor procurement systems and e-newsletters
  • - Superior, professional and versatile writing, presentation, and communication skills with ability to adapt based on audience
  • - Ability to work independently, willingness to travel as needed
  • - Knowledge of and passion for MIX’s mission
  • - Understanding of financial inclusion and data is a strong plus
  • - No ego, drama, or pessimism; the successful candidate will be flexible, humble, patient, and have a good sense of humor
