Communications Officer at AFI

31 January, 2019

Communications Officer

Background

The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) is the world’s leading organization on financial inclusion policy and regulation. A member-owned network, AFI promotes and develops evidence-based policy solutions that help to improve the lives of the poor. AFI members are at the forefront of successful financial system reforms and have the unique experience to help shape the emerging regulatory response. Many of the most effective financial inclusion policies have been innovated, supported and implemented by AFI member institutions, and offer valuable lessons for any country interested in reducing poverty. Together, AFI members are working to unlock the potential of the world’s 1.7 billion unbanked through the power of financial inclusion.

AFI is run by a management unit (AFI Management Unit) that provides a portfolio of value-added services for members to facilitate knowledge exchange and drive smart policy reform. Over the next five years (Phase 3 Strategic Plan, 2019-2023), AFI is working on issuing financial inclusion policy models for guidance and in-country implementation support. Therefore, AFI is looking for a Communications Officer who will be equally and exclusively focused on two workstreams: green financial inclusion, and gender and women’s financial inclusion. The incumbent will provide diverse services, and produce a variety of content while promoting AFI’s activities in these two areas.

Green Financial Inclusion:

AFI’s Green Financial Inclusion workstream is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI), supported by the German Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), based on the decision of the German Bundestag.

AFI members endorsed the Sharm El Sheikh Accord on Financial Inclusion, Climate Change and Green Finance during 2017 Global Policy Forum (GPF). The Accord commits AFI members to work together and with partners to identify, understand and implement financial inclusion policy solutions that also have positive outcomes for the environment, focusing on communities that are most vulnerable to climate change.

Specific measures AFI members can take to address financial inclusion and climate change challenges, and how best to use AFI’s capacities for generating knowledge, information exchange and peer learning are outlined in the Nadi Action Agenda, agreed by AFI members in November 2018.

Gender & Women’s Financial Inclusion:

AFI’s Gender and Women’s Financial Inclusion workstream is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida.

AFI members are committed to the Denarau Action Plan (DAP) on gender and women’s financial inclusion to increase women’s access to quality and affordable financial services globally — bridging the financial inclusion gender gap. The DAP targets to accelerate the progress of women's financial inclusion by halving the financial inclusion gender gap across AFI member jurisdictions by 2021.

Taking the opportunity at the 2017 AFI GPF, the Gender and Women's Financial Inclusion Committee (GWFIC) called on AFI members to halve the gender gap in each of their countries by 2021 — setting specific targets on gender diversity and women’s financial inclusion, in line with the Maya Declaration
